Two for the price of one

For today's Visible Monday I decided to do a 'twofer.' Two outfits based on the the same top, bottom, and scarf but with different jackets. I recently purchased the scarf on sale at White House Black Market. I liked the color combination/pattern. The scarf has an Alexander McQueen vibe without skulls. I just cannot abide the skull motif, it's just way too creepy for my taste.

Jacket on Left: CJBanks
Jacket on Right: Chico's
Blouse: Nygard
Jeans: NYDJ Jade Leggings
Scarf: White House Black Market
Boots: Vince Camuto Winchell

Here's a closer look at the scarf.

Of course, I have to share a photo of Harry who was so excited about photo time.

When I put together the floral/plaid look I wasn't so sure I would like it, but it turned out to be my favorite of the two looks. I think that we were so indoctrinated when we were young to not mix patterns that it has taken a long time for me to be really comfortable wearing it. Have any of you had a difficult time accepting this long time fashion "don't" as a "do"?

Please join me for this week's Visible Monday linkup. For me, it's the most happenin' place to be on a Monday.

  1. That Floral Plaid look is a winner. Glad I'm not the only one who isn't into wearing skulls.

  2. I really like the floral/plaid mix on you. The whole look vibrates really nicely. The tones are similar, and honestly, that gorgeous scarf would probably go with anything. Love it.

  3. Aw, I love Harry.

Great looks, Debbi! I know, mixing patterns is so burned into us: "Must not mix patterns!" It's taken me a long time to get used to it, and I still don't do it that much.

  4. Yeah, pattern-mixing is hard to get comfortable with, after having it drilled into me that it's Not Done. But! Scarves for me are the easiest way to do it, because to my mind, they don't count as pattern-mixing.

I like what you've done here, and Harry is a handsome fellow!

  5. I love the look of mixed patterns, but find it difficult to pull it off. The scarf is beautiful and works really well with the plaid. I'm another who can't take to the skull fad; a couple of times I have been drawn to something pretty, only to realise the skull is worked into it. Shudder! Hi to Harry!

  6. Great idea. I really like your scarf. It's funny how making just one small change can change the whole look of an outfit.

  9. Yes, I've had the same experience with pattern mixing and color mixing - but it's getting easier, isn't it? I really like the pattern of your scarf against the plaid! And hey Harry, you always look every inch the star : >

  14. One post with two great outfits, sounds like happy hour? Both your jackets are lovely, the cream coloured one is my favorite though. It's also taken me a long time of blogging and following other blogs, to start mixing patterns, and now I enjoy planning new patterned purchases to mix with those at home. Harry is of course as cute as ever!

  15. I agree, I love the combination of the plaid and print. It's funny, I'm pretty okay with mixing prints, but I still feel compelled to match stuff. Sometimes I purposely go back to add an odd element because my first instinct is to do it a la catalogue. But then it's not as interesting!! But some indoctrinations die hard. Mine were definitely drilled in to me by conservative parents, God love them. They think I'm weird to this day. :-)

  16. I like the darker jacket better. The scarf has a nice colors. Skulls say Halloween to me. You can wear your scarf for a lot longer.

  18. Don't know who looks happier, you or Harry. You're definitely the cute one today. What a difference the jacket makes! What a great lesson in extending that closet to the max!

  19. I love your pattern mixing, Debbi, and the scarf is beautiful. I too have difficulty with this concept and need lots of practice, but have been inspired by other bloggers. I'm taking 'baby steps' and learning as I go. Which is great for the aging brain!

I always appreciate a photo of Harry!

  20. You made me laugh with your comment that it may be "my fault". haha
Your scarf is beautiful! It does look really nice with the plaid. There are so many "rules" that were ingrained when we were younger...and it does take time to get past some of them. But I'm so happy to. I really don't like being held down to most fashion rules of the past.
    Big hugs, Harry...you superstar!

  22. Yes pattern mixing was a difficult one for me to get into as well. I thought mixing a pinstripe with a color was big news... Harry is such a doll did you realize he is color coordinated to you outfit as well? I like both jackets but the darker one seems to look better with the scarf. Love your colored jeans as well. White house black market has some nice things the one I go to is just across the street from Chico's, apparently they are owned by the same company.

  23. I love to mix it up, but it's true that came later in life. Your scarf is lovely and so nice and large. I like both ways you've worn it and think it looks good with both jackets. It's always interesting how the slightest change makes an ensemble look completely different. I just have to remember to do that and not always wear the same things in the same way.

  25. Debbi, I love the photo with you and Harry. You are smiling and that makes me smile. I understand the skull thing but if you think about, we all have a skull...hahah. It's just a body part. Anyway, great look, scarf is really pretty. dawn suitcase vignettes xo

  26. Took me a while to get into the mixed prints but I keep struggling along with it. You pulled it together beautifully!

  27. OOOH! Pretty scarf! I'm not crazy about skulls either....

  28. Love love love this scarf, and I know what you mean about skulls. :-)

  29. Debbi, I love to see you looking so happy! Oh, that Harry - such a dear. I agree that your floral / plaid mix is totally awesome. What a difference switching out a jacket makes, and the long line of your scarf tie as well. I took to pattern mixing right off, but other things have been more challenging despite loving the look on others - socks / tights with open-toed shoes, for example.

I have a certain affection for skulls / skull motifs as a nod to a punk past, but these days (for the past couple of decades really) I'm very choosy about wearing them. However, there is one (but only one!) new skull-decorated item I'm deadly excited about. Please still be my friend! :) Thank you so much for your kind comments on my blog - they have stayed with me.
